Q&A w/ Superhost Erica

What inspired you to become a host & what was your early hosting experience like?

My team and I were inspired to become hosts on Airbnb due to the ease of listing there, and the market reach we knew we could accomplish with the platform. From the very beginning it was fairly simple to set up, and we experimented with things like listing titles and featured photos to find what worked and what didn’t.

What has being an Airbnb host done for you? What is the greatest gift that Airbnb has given you?

Being an Airbnb host has been a great experience, and the platform allows for simple management of inquiries and bookings. The greatest gift Airbnb has given us is exposure. Our listing becomes more popular with each booking and review.

What was the biggest mistake you made as a host?

Probably pricing the rental too low initially.

LearnBnB Note: While Erica did underprice her listing, most new hosts may still want to consider underpricing their listing versus competition during their ramp up period (the first 2-3 months) in order to build momentum.

What advice would you give an aspiring host?

My advice is to take a look at similar properties that perform well on Airbnb, and learn from their listings. I would also suggest to keep experimenting with your listing until you find the best formula!

What is your hosting mantra or philosophy – what principles guide you as a host?

Our hosting philosophy is to treat our listing as a 5 star resort, and to deliver the experience and amenities that one would expect from such a vacation rental.

LearnBnB Note: During our stay at the listing, we immediately noticed the extra attention to detail from Erica–from the many surprise extras we received as guests to the subtle but extra places where Erica placed instructions where it’s most needed.
